Tips for developing a student based tutoring program...
Learning how to develop a tutoring program is not difficult if you take things step-by-step. The first step is to determine what type of focus you want your tutoring program to have. In this case we will be developing a student based tutoring program, however, your other options are skill based and subject based programs. The next step in learning how to develop a tutoring program is to assess the learning strengths and weaknesses of the student. This can be done through evaluations and screenings performed by the child's teachers or the school psychologist. This can also be done by examining the student's school work. Step three is to find what the student is interested in. For example, the student may be interested in video games, football, fashion or science. This list of interests can be used to develop tutoring activities in later steps. The fourth step is to set learning goals. The student needs to participate in this step. For example, they may want to improve their understanding of physics so that they can create physics science fair projects for the upcoming science fair or science competition. On the other hand, they may want to focus on improving their math scores so that they will be able to pass the SATs so that they can get into a good college. The next step in learning how to develop a tutoring program is to find ways to connect what the student is interested in with activities that will help them achieve their goals. For example, if the student is interested in China and they have an educational goal of learning the Mandarin language, then setting up tutoring sessions that will allow them to learn Mandarin language online. The final step is to review and revise the tutoring program as needed. As a student matures and meets educational goals, you will need to review the tutoring program that has been set up and you will need to make changes to it. This will help your student to continue making progress towards a future that they helped to shape. |
